Get The Facts About Health Insurance Exchanges

On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act. The law puts in place comprehensive health insurance reforms that will roll out over the next four years, with the most important changes taking place by 2014.  Every state in the nation will have to establish a Health Insurance Exchange by January 1st, 2014

An Exchange is a new transparent and competitive insurance marketplace where individuals and small businesses can buy affordable and qualified health benefit plans. Exchanges will offer employees a choice of health plans that meet certain benefits and cost standards.

Small companies with fewer than 100 employees can shop in a these health insurance  exchanges. The exchange empowers entrepreneurs and business owners with the same purchasing power that large corporations have to get better choices and lower prices. The Exchange is a new marketplace where individuals and small businesses can buy affordable health benefit plans.

It is important to note that starting in 2014, all members of Congress will be required to get their health care insurance through the Exchanges as well. The Department of Health and Human Services has prepared a short video that explains what the exchanges could look like, how they might operate, when to expect the changes to take effect, and where you can go for additional information.
